Anousavali

Anousavali the colossal triumphal arch at the end of the "Avenue Lang Xang"
is a little complicated to handle. At the one hand side it dominates the whole
town, on the other hand side it is in cause of it's political statement not
very popular.

Anousavali was build in the 60's as monument for the "Heroes of the King's Army"
But later the rulers of Vientiane thought that there couldn't been any heroes
because the army belonged to the old dictators governemt. They shortened the
name to Anousavali (Laotic for monument).
